It was before "modern refrigeration" that the salting station prepared cucumbers and other produce harvested by local farmers for transportation by rail.
Webmaster's Note: I stumbled upon this image at an antique store in Bay City, Michigan in the summer of 2004. The seller told me that the photograph was in a box of postcards that he picked up at an auction in Florida!
